I’ve long been a fan of vision boards. There’s something about dedicating a set amount of time to focus on my future that feels like the ultimate expression of self love.
Asking the question “what do I want for my life?” used to feel self-indulgent, as I was so quick to put the needs of everyone else before me. A vision board not only helps me stay clear on what’s truly important to me, it also gives me a road map for my dreams and desires.
My vision board keeps me true to my dreams when I want to succumb to the drama of the day.
Now my vision boards have morphed into video boards on my phone and Pinterest pins. but I’ve still got a vision board smack dab in the middle of the wall in my home office and one in my closest. They’re inspiring and open my heart. And you know what? Most, if not all of the highly successful (in terms of loving their lives) people I know use vision boards. Quiet simply, the work.
Why Vision Boards are So Useful
As humans we need motivation. If you’ve given the critical voice in your mind any attention (I’m raising my hand right now), then you know how quick it can be to usurp your goals. “Oh, do it tomorrow” it will say “you don’t really have time to do that” it will say. “That’s too much for you, don’t bother.” Or my all time un-favorite: “who do you think you are to want that???” You know the tape that runs in your head when you’re going for something you really want and then a challenge arises. All that voice needs is one wavering moment and it will try to take you down.
The truth is, if it’s a dream that’s brewing in your heart, then it’s meant to be yours. No matter how crazy it may seem to your intellectual mind.
Vision Boards Create Space For Your Future
Think of the times in your life when you realized you did/achieved/accomplished the very thing you wanted. I’m sure the path that led you there looked nothing like how you expected it to. That’s because when you hold a dream and surrender the how to the universe, it’s going to surprise you because it’s coming from a place you haven’t been before. Meaning, your mind can’t conjure up the details because it’s a new experience.
A vision board keeps you tethered to the outcome – – the what – – not the how. This is a critical piece. Your job isn’t to figure out the how, your job is to focus your attention on the what. The field of unlimited possibilities will fill in the rest. You just have to get out of your own way.
Up-level How You Feel to Speed up the Process
One of my teachers once said to me “Danielle, how good can you stand it?” I love this question and now ask my clients how good they can stand it. We’re so used to waiting for the other shoe to drop that we forget it can just get better and better. We can learn from joy not heartbreak. It can keep getting better and better and we can continue to have more things to be grateful for. We live in an ever-expanding universe and life is up to the one living it.
The key is we’ve got to feel grateful for what we are creating before we see it in physical form. We have to live from the heart. If everything is energy – including you and me – then we’ve got to feel our way into our manifestations. When you tune into the frequency of gratitude and feel it in your heart then you’ve opened up the superhighway to manifesting all the experiences you are grateful for.
A vision board alone won’t do the work for you. But you’re investment in your vision board will bring you countless blessings.
Winter Solstice Vision Board Ceremony
Creating a vision board is a ceremony of sorts. It’s you taking time out of the busyness of life to get centered in your heart and open up to what you want to create in the upcoming year. We’ve got a new decade rolling in so you can even give yourself a 1, 5 and 10 year dream list.
This Saturday, 12/21 is the longest night of the year. A beautiful time to lights some candles and create your vision board. Set up a space for your future to be called in. Allow your heart to dream. Have fun, play. Playfulness is the true nature of the spirit. Ask yourself what you want in all the sections of your life: work, family, friends, travel, etc.
Share Your Vision
I’ll be sharing my vision board experience with my children (all of them!!) and my husband. Not only is it fun to witness the dreams of your loved ones, but it’s fun to share your dreams with them. If you don’t have kids, grab a friend or family member. Or, do it alone. I’ve created many vision boards alone.
Here are some master vision board creators from the past:
First, Anchor in Your Heart
The most important thing to consider before you begin to work on your vision board is to get centered in your heart. Play music that elevates your energy, dance, play with your dog – whatever it is that gets you into your heart space, do that first. Then get to creating the vision board for your future. You can use a poster board, magazine cut-outs, glue, maybe throw in some personal effects that make you feel good to see. Have fun.
The Key Component: A PLAN
To become the person that lives your vision board requires one thing: change. To truly change you need a plan. This month’s monthly circle will give you time to create your plan and to sort out the parts of you that can’t come along for the ride when you meet your future. We’ll seal in the energy of your future with a guided meditation. Grab a journal and join me for our last circle of 2019. The circle takes place in Southlake and is $25.

When You Feel Good You Want to Give Back
Perhaps the most beautiful thing about living a life you love is that your heart expands and wants to share, connect and help others. When we feel whole we want to share it with others. When your light burns brightly it naturally shines on everyone you’re with. This is when self-love turns outward. The more you feel good, the better you make the world around you. 🙂
About Last Night
A special shout out to Christine who opened her beautiful home up to us last night for a pop-up guided meditation. To quote a woman who attended for the first time and who had never meditated: “It was absolutely amazing!!! I am so relaxed and thank you!!! You truly are amazing and the best at what you do. I am so happy to experience tonight..thank you!” Thank you, Susan, for your kind words. Susan was nervous to join us but went for it anyway. It was a beautiful evening.
If you’re nervous about attending for the first time hopefully Susan’s words will ease your fear and get your feet walking. 🙂
Thank you all so much for being a part of this community. I love each and every one of you and am honored to share this life with you.
Keep shining your light and love your dream future into existence. xo
Lots of love,
